Joe is a professional director with a strong background in Shakespeare and classical theatre. He has directed at theatres around the country including Barrington Stage Company, TheatreWorks, Florida Studio Theatre, Theatre at Monmouth and NJ Rep, and The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey, where he was Associate Artistic Director for twenty years and remains an Associate Artist. He has directed critically acclaimed productions of The Diary of Anne Frank, Our Town, Henry IV Part One, Butler, Amadeus, To Kill A Mockingbird, Cymbeline, Of Mice and Men, The Tempest, Galileo, A Midwinter Night's Dream and The Grapes of Wrath.

As a director and freelance casting director, Joe is always interested in meeting talented actors of all types and all ages (18+).

Please come prepared with ONE Shakespeare OR ONE Classical monologue. If you do not have either of these, he will gladly see a contemporary monologue.

Joe Discher

JOE DISCHER has been directing, casting and producing Shakespeare and classical productions for twenty-five years. He is an associate artist at The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey, where he was Associate Artistic Director the from 2000-2012, and also functioned as casting director. The New York Times has called his productions "devastatingly effective," "beautiful," "enchanting," "sensitively directed," "staged with spirit and intelligence," and "joyously funny." Now a freelance director and independent casting director, Mr. Discher has directed regionally around the country and off-Broadway. His most recent Shakespearean production was Antony and Cleopatra, starring Michael Dorn (Star Trek: The Next Generation). Mr. Discher is a member of SDC and AEA. He coaches actors in NYC and NJ in his spare time.
