REAL LIFE TIPS THAT ARE ALSO GREAT FOR ACTORS

Real Life Tips that are also great for Actors

The world is brimming with great advice….and not so great advice! Here are some popular advice phrases that we feel will particularly help you in your acting career!

  1. Don’t put all your eggs in one basket. Putting too much weight on one audition is a great way to get in your head and mess yourself up. It’s always great to have a side project or other things you care about in your life. If you are always solely focused on your acting career results, you won’t be able to find happiness in the journey. Also– diversify! Learn and explore different mediums like VO and Commercials so you can open yourself up to even more opportunities.

  2. Find your tribe. You need a crew of people who understand you in this industry! This crew will be your last minute readers, your bad day pep-talkers and your sanity when this industry starts to feel a little brutal. A great tribe of support is vital for longevity in this world. Find yourself a positive and motivating crew that can lift you up and inspire you when you need the boost and maybe put some space between you and the negative nancies in your life.

  3. You can’t pour from an empty cup. You are your own product and you need to take care of you! Healthy food. Exercise. Water. Sleep. Mental Health. Spirituality. It is ALL important. You need to be tending to your WHOLE SELF so you can consistently show up with vitality and creativity. Projects in our industry often mean long work days. You need to make sure that you have your health optimized and that you prioritize it!

  4. Do What You Love. If you don’t love performing, this is not a get rich quick sorta road! Come to the business for the love and joy because even successful actors have valleys. If you don’t love the work, then spend your time on work you WILL love. And if you have a moment where the love burns out for you– know that it is ok to take a break!

  5. If at first you don’t succeed, try again. Not every opportunity works out. In fact, in our industry, the numbers are against you. You hear more “no’s” than “yes’s” and you can’t let that slow you down. There ARE projects out there that need you—- and it is your job to keep looking for them. Everyone blooms at their own rate.  Keep going!!

  6. Just Breathe. We are usually moving too fast from moment to moment and it doesn’t serve us or the projects we are hoping to work on.

  7. Leave it Better Than You Found It. When you approach your work, your auditions and your life with a spirit of kindness and helpfulness– that gets remembered. People always remember how you make them feel. Bring a gorgeous heart to everything you do in this industry and bring a helpful and diligent work ethic to every project. Those who help the ones around them and move in generosity of spirit build stronger relationships– and after all it IS a relationship based business.
