If you've been thinking about starting a career as an actor, Acting 101 is the PERFECT way to start off. You'll work with professional actor and teacher Jay Russell who will introduce you to a variety of approaches to Acting, Stage basics, Terminology and the Craft of Acting. In 6 weeks, you'll also cover with Jay: -The basics of Technique and exercises that awaken your body, voice, breath and imagination. -Getting in touch with yourself as an Actor using improvisation, imagination exercises and exploration. -Truth in Acting - Committing yourself to your work and believing your actions onstage. -Discovering physical actions, finding an Objective, and identifying different intentions to meet that Objective. -Relaxation, Concentration and Focus -Introduction to text through monologue work -Scene Study- How to approach a scene, as well as working with a scene partner and learning to give constructive criticism of the work of your fellow actors. Jay will also discuss the realities of the business of Acting and how to use the services at Actors Connection to build your personal Acting career and to network. After, taking this 6 week class, you'll know if Acting is something that you really want to pursue in the future. Class size is limited to 14 to ensure personalized attention and plenty of time with each actor. Jay Russell has been a professional working actor for over twenty years. He has appeared on Broadway(The Play What I Wrote) and Off Broadway(most recently as part of the original cast of Our Town at the Barrow Street Theatre; Around The World in 80 Days (Irish Rep); The Normal Heart (Public); The Green Heart (MTC); Novel (SPF); Private Jokes, Public Places, & more), National Tours, leading roles in major Regional Theatres across the country and internationally. He has also appeared in numerous film and television roles including: Morning Glory, The Sopranos, Ugly Betty, Louie, Bored to Death, Law & Order, Law & Order CI, The Unusuals, End of the Line, Spin City, Jamie Kennedy Experiment, Onion News Network, etc... His resume ranges from Contemporary to Classical work to Musical theater. He has been coaching Actors for more than fifteen years and worked with young Actors across the country and at his alma mater Syracuse University. Throughout his career Jay has directed and written for the theatre, and has been a reader at literally thousands of auditions for theatre, film and television which has given him a unique perspective into both sides of the business of Acting. Jay loves working with Actors of all ages and training. As someone who continues to work professionally he truly understands what it means to be an Actor.
