New! 3-Week ACTOR WORKOUT: TELEVISION DRAMA with KENDRA CASTLEBERRY, Head Casting Director, Castleberry/Murphy Casting

This 3-week online class is for actors 18+ (no minors) and will focus on scene work for Television Drama auditions. Special attention will be paid to script analysis, character development and technical adjustments.

Each class will begin with a short discussion pointing out specifics of the sub-genres and formats we are working on. For weeks 1 and 2, you will get the chance to perform your chosen scene, get verbal feedback and redirection from Kendra, and do the scene again. For week 3, you will submit self-tapes of your scenes and receive written feedback. Everyone will watch the work of their classmates, so as to learn from each other.

WEEK 1 - PROCEDURALS:

Discussion covering the following topics:

  • Kendra's casting background

  • What is a procedural?

  • The basics of script analysis (who, what, where, when, why?)

  • How to analyze the power dynamics in a scene

  • How to identify and highlight important facts

  • How to color the story with your point of view

  • How does your role fit into the larger story?

  • The importance of wardrobe/hair/make-up choices

Scenework: Guest Star scenes from Procedurals. A collection of sides will be sent out 48 hours prior to class and actor will be able to choose which scene they wish to work on.

WEEK 2 – SERIALIZED DRAMAS & PRIMETIME SOAPS:

Discussion covering the following topics:

  • The importance of defining relationships

  • Finding clues within the script to your character’s history

  • Defending your character

  • Living in the moment

  • Feeling and conveying confidence in the audition room

Scenework: Guest Star scenes from Serialized Dramas and Primetime Soaps. A collection of sides will be sent out 48 hours prior to class and actor will be able to choose which scene they wish to work on.

WEEK 3 – FANTASY AND SCI-FI:

Discussion covering the following topics:

  • The importance of physicality and character movement

  • Clarifying the rules of the world

  • Proper pronunciation and not getting tongue-tied

  • How to interpret confusing direction

Scenework: Guest Star scenes from Fantasy and Sci-Fi series. A collection of sides will be sent out 48 hours prior to class and actor will be able to choose which scene to self-tape. Written feedback will be provided no more than 48 hours following.

You'll have an opportunity at the end of each class to ask questions, so as to address specific concerns and gain further understanding of the day’s lesson.


Class is limited to 12 actors.

NOTE: This class is for actors 18+ (no minors). It is required that actors who sign up for this class be able to attend both weeks.

What to Prepare:

For this online class, Kendra will select sides for you to prepare based on your headshot and fully completed MY INFO section in your AC account

Assignments will be emailed 1-2 days in advance. 


Please follow the procedures listed below:

  • Please update your headshot and fill out the MY INFO section of your AC account upon registration.

  • Arrive at least 10 MINUTES before your event is slated to start. Your host will give important information about the event at this time.

  • Instructions and the ZOOM link for access to this online event will be emailed to you in advance. If you have not received the link by 12pm (EST) the day-of the event, please reach out to registration@actorsconnection.com at least one hour PRIOR to the start of class.

**No recording of any kind is permitted by participants during class.**

Kendra Castleberry

Hailing from Louisville, Kentucky, KENDRA CASTLEBERRY has been working in casting for more than 20 years.  A TV, film and theatre enthusiast from a very young age, Kendra studied directing at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign before making the move to Los Angeles.  

Past casting credits include Freeform’s The Watchful Eye, indie feature Peace in the Valley (2022 Tribeca Film Festival), Facebook Watch’s Limetown, ABC’s Take Two, CBS’s Zoo, NBC’s Grimm, ABC’s Castle, CW’s Star-Crossed, as well as numerous other series, pilots and TV movies.  

Kendra also has a passion for charity work; she is a big fundraiser for AIDS Walk Los Angeles and volunteers frequently around town.  A proud member of the Casting Society, Kendra is a co-chair of the CSA Equity in Entertainment Committee.
