Every year brings tons of film festivals both worldwide and in the US where new films are screened, marketed and hopefully given distribution deals.
It's a filmmakers dream!
It's also the dream of many actors to be discovered in those films that land in major film festivals as well. Careers are started by being in the right project at the right time.
Today, we're excited to have FOUR top Casting Directors whose films have either currently or in the past been at Sundance Film Festival, the largest independent film festival in the United States.
This event will start off with a virtual Q&A. You'll then be showcasing to our panel and get immediate feedback on your performance so you can continue to make smarter and more powerful choices in this ever-changing career.

You'll also receive written feedback that will be emailed to you 1-3 days after the event to provide even more clarity on your work.
What to Prepare:
For this showcase, please prepare a monologue OR a scene of choice that you feel best showcases your strengths as an actor. You can select a scene from the General Sides database (link located in your Actors Connection account upon registration), OR bring in your own 2-3 page scene.
Please email jess@actorsconnection.com your scene choice AS AN ATTACHMENT (file should be labeled YourName_CHARACTER) by 5pm (EST) the DAY BEFORE the event.

Arrive at least 10 MINUTES before your event is slated to start. Your host will give important information about the event at this time.

Instructions and the ZOOM link for access to this online event will be emailed to you in advance. If you have not received the link by 12pm (EST) the day-of the event, please reach out to registration@actorsconnection.com at least one hour PRIOR to the start of class.

Liz Ortiz
Liz is a NYC based casting director and award winning indie film producer/director credited on projects which have screened at hundreds of film festivals such as Sundance, Tribeca, BAM Cinemafest, Toronto, IRIS Prize, GAZE, Brooklyn, Palm Springs, Austin, American Black, HBO Latino, NY Latino, Queen’s World, Reel Sisters, Harlem and Urban World among others.
Projects have aired on CBS, HBO, Peacock, Apple TV, Amazon, Showtime, Netflix, and Lifetime Movies. Casting and producing highlights include: Advantageous (Sundance award winner, Independent Spirit nominee), Barrio Boy (Peacock,Amazon,AppleTV, streaming in France and the UK); And... Seen (writer/producer/director) a feature documentary commenting on misperceptions of disability in the entertainment industry.
Current indie film projects include The Black Dog is Nipping at Your Heels, in production written, directed by Sundance Alumn Moon Molson, and The Last Days of Byron Bray, by Michael Borrelli of West 52nd Street Films and produced by Sundance Alumn Harris Doran, in pre-production. She also casts special projects for various university film departments and festivals.
Liz is an in house casting director and on the faculty of Stonestreet Studios/NYU, casts for the Department of Cinematography at New York Film Academy and enjoys giving live and virtual workshops for Princeton University, the American Academy of Dramatic Arts, SAG-AFTRA Foundation, Actors Connection other professional actor training programs.
Eve Battaglia
One of NY's top indie film casting directors, EVE BATTAGLIA is best known for casting the Oscar-nominated TRANSAMERICA and was the US Casting Director for the hit Netflix series LILYHAMMER which starred Steve Van Zandt (Sopranos, E Street Band).
Currently, Eve is working on TWO indie features. One of her recent indie features SWAN SONG starring Udo Kier, Jennifer Coolidge and Michael Urie and directed by Todd Stephens is 92% certified fresh on Rotten Tomatoes and up for a variety of awards. Eve is nominated for an Artios Award for SWAN SONG and it's also up for two Indie Indie Spirit awards.
She's also known for bringing in tons of AC actors for her many projects! Eve's recent projects include: PROFESSOR MARSTON AND THE WONDER WOMEN which premiered at the Toronto Film Festival 2017, THE TRANSFIGURATION which premiered at Cannes in the prestigious Un Certain Regard section and is nominated for an Indie Spirit award.
Past projects include: the indie feature MATCH starring Patrick Stewart, Matthew Lillard and Carla Gugino, the feature film LULLABY starring Richard Jenkins, Jennifer Hudson and Amy Adams, BLUE CAPRICE starring Isaiah Washington premiered at Sundance 2013, was opening night for New Directors/New films at MOMA and was nominated for an Indie Spirit award and two Gotham Awards.

Marin Hope
Marin Hope is a Los Angeles native and LA-based casting director. In 2006, she landed a position at ABC Primetime Casting New York under casting executive, Marci Philips. She would go on to work with casting directors, Judy Henderson, Suzanne Smith-Crowley, Jessica Kelly, Billy Hopkins and Ann Goulder on projects such as Showtime's Homeland, The Perks of Being a Wallflower, ABC’S Pan Am, The Wolverine, Labor Day, ABC's Zero Hour, Noah, The Maze Runner, NBC'S The Blacklist, and HBO's Bessie before returning to Los Angeles in 2014.
In 2015, Marin joined Define American as their Entertainment Media Director. Define American is a nonprofit media and culture organization founded by Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist, Jose Antonio Vargas, who’s mission is to use the power of storytelling to transcend politics and shift the conversation around immigrants, identity, and citizenship in a changing America. In addition to expanding Define American’s impact in television, film and entertainment, Marin produced the first annual Define American Film Festival in Des Moines preceding Iowa’s 2016 Presidential Caucuses.
Marin has since opened her own casting office, often partnering with casting director, Heidi Levitt on film, television, theatre and commercial projects. Some credits include American Made, starring Tom Cruise and Domhnall Gleeson, Complete Unknown, starring Michael Shannon and Rachel Weisz, The Last Word, starring Shirley MacLaine and Amanda Seyfried, Kings, starring Halle Berry and Daniel Craig, Bad Samaritan starring David Tennant and Robert Sheehan, Who Will Write Our History, starring Joan Allen and Adrien Brody, The Roads Not Taken, starring Javier Bardem, Elle Fanning, Laura Linney and Salma Hayek which premiered in competition at the 2020 Berlin International Film Festival, and most recently, All My Puny Sorrows, starring Alison Pill, Sarah Gadon, Mare Winningham and Donal Logue, which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival this September.
Marin is a member of the Casting Society of America (CSA). She was was the recipient of an Artios Award for Outstanding Achievement in Casting in 2020 and was nominated for Artios Awards in 2018 and 2022.
