Self-Tape vs. Live Auditions with Atlanta-based CD Cathy Reinking

Tuesday, February 19, 2019, 6pm ET / 3pm PT

This event is in the past.

A strong actor knows what good acting is on a set or on a stage. But are you clear what “good acting” is for the audition process?   And now with self-tape auditions in the mix, which is its own animal and not a pretty one at that, do you really know what casting directors are looking for?  We are looking to be emotionally invested within the first 15 seconds, maybe shorter.  Tough task unless you know the Secrets of a Great Audition.  In this special workshop, you will learn these secrets and more from a veteran casting director who has even written a book on this subject - “How to Book Acting Jobs in TV and Film: Second Edition” - which covers (unexpected) topics like “What is Charisma and How Can You Enhance Your Own” and “Audition In a Way We Can’t Deny You.”

In this workshop, you’ll be given material ahead of time.  You will create a self-tape audition from the material that you will send to Actors Connection prior to the workshop.  We will watch all the self-tapes together in the class with Cathy providing an honest assessment of each one.  In the second half of the class, you will do the same material in a Mock In Person Audition situation, keeping the standards as high as they are in a real audition for Network, cable, streaming shows, and studio/prestige independent films.  There will also be time for a comprehensive Q & A.

CATHY REINKING has been working as a Casting Director since the early '90s, working on FrasierArrested DevelopmentAccording to Jim, and many other shows and pilots on NBC, CBS, ABC, The CW, Fox.  She also served as NBC's Manager of Casting, overseeing many pilots including "The Office," and holds a degree in theatre arts from UCLA, where she graduated magna cum laude.  Recent credits include Insatiable, KillermanNew Amsterdam, Abby’sManifest, and The Village.  For this last pilot season (Winter 2018), NBC hired her to search for talent in Atlanta/Southeast Area for their line up of new shows.

Cathy is also a content creator and urges actors to do the same.  Projects she has written and produced DIY are The British Invasion (a Korean-American actors pretends to be British in order to get work), The Real Man (a black actor vows to only play uplifting roles)and All or Nothing (two disenfranchised gamblers in their 50s find unexpected love at the black jack table).  She also urges actors to do Stand Up and in fact has done stand up herself (yeah, many times), both in Los Angeles and Atlanta.

The second edition of her book “How To Book Acting Jobs in TV and Film” is available on Amazon.
